In a move that was a long time coming, the Atlanta Hawks signed Dejounte Murray, who arrives in a trade from San Antonio Spurs; Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
The Hawks franchise's bid for the young point guard is significant, as in return they send the Spurs Danilo Gallinari and three first-round draft picks: the 2023 draft pick via Charlotte Hornets and the team's own picks for 2025 and 2027. In addition, they give the Texas organization the ability to trade the 2026 picks.
Only the future will tell how the deal turns out for the Hawks, but what is undoubted is that Travis Schlenk, general manager of the organization, has kept his word, since in May he assured that they would be aggressive in the market and that they would not make a mistake again by keeping the same roster from one year to the next.
What is certain is that Atlanta picks up a valuable piece. Murray, who was the 29th overall pick in the 2016 draft, has made a huge leap in the recently completed campaign by becoming an All-Star averaging 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, 8.3 rebounds and 2 steals; yes, he has put up spectacular numbers.
Murray now comes to a team that surprised in 2021 and was dealt a tough blow in 2022, when they barely made the playoffs; yes, he will have a huge talent by his side in Trae Young. Will they work together? We're guessing it's clear in Georgia that they will.
