A huge gaffe is haunting the Pelicans this season. Nothing is going right for the New Orleans franchise, who in the 118-116 loss to the Celtics saw Dejounte Murray go down. The player, one of the team's leading players, broke his right Achilles tendon and will not play again this season.

Murray went into the zone and shot to the basket, missed and, trying to get the rebound, he went to the ground clutching the back of his right ankle. He got up and limped off to the bench. The diagnosis was as clear as it was devastating. "It's tough when you see a guy go down like that who means so much to our team and works so hard," lamented coach Willie Green.

It's the latest misfortune for a Pelicans team that is second-to-last in the West with a 12-37 record and was already playing without three of its stalwarts: Herb Jones, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, whose history of physical problems and overweight would make for a series. The latter two and Murray have not been on the court at the same time this season. And after this new setback, they will not be.

The point guard was already sidelined for 17 games earlier this season due to a hand fracture. He was averaging 17.9 points per game and was the Pelicans' leading assist and rebounder with 7.4 and 2.0, respectively.

In New Orleans, to explain so much misfortune, they already resort to non-earthly matters. "A lot of times God puts you through situations to give you a bigger message. I think that's what's happening now. It's not always easy to understand what he's saying, but there's always a reason," said Trey Murphy III.
