The WNBA ended one of its best seasons in its history, at least in of audience. The great numbers that the league has had this year are due, in particular, to the presence of rookies like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, who gave the league a boost it had not had for at least a decade.

The 2024 WNBA playoffs became something special, attracting more attention than ever before. With a rising level of talent, bigger audiences, and a surge of excitement surrounding rookie sensations like Clark and Reese, this season is poised to break records.

One of the biggest shifts over the past few years is the playoff format, which gives more teams a shot at the title. Gone are the days of single-elimination rounds. Now, teams face off in a best-of-three series in the first round, and things heat up with best-of-five battles in the semifinals and Finals.

This change allows fans to see more of their favorite players and teams as they push deeper into the postseason. In the end, the highest-seeded team gets the all-important home-court advantage, hosting Games 1, 2, and the potential Game 5 in the Finals. For basketball fans, that's a dream come true.

WNBA Playoffs offer a little more than just glory

Playoff basketball has a certain magic to it, and when the WNBA comes off a season with a 27% increase in viewership, it feels even more electrifying. As the league expands its fan base, it's not just the competition heating up-the business side is getting a boost too. The excitement is darn near palpable, capturing how the growing attention has taken the WNBA to new heights.

Now, there's more than just the championship trophy at stake. Thanks to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), players earn bonuses based on how far their team advances. Sure, every athlete dreams of the glory of a title, but a little extra cash doesn't hurt. Teams eliminated in the first round will receive $1,616 per player, teams eliminated in the second round: $3,123 and the Championship runner-up: $7,746.

The bonus pool for the 2024 playoffs is $500,000, with the champions each earning $20,825. Even teams knocked out early still take home some money, but the real prize is lifting the championship trophy.
