Angel Reese has etched her name in WNBA history by breaking the record for the most rebounds in a single season, solidifying her reputation as one of the league's most dominant forces.
Despite Reese's big night, the Sky ended up folding to the Minnesota Lynx 79-74.
Angel Reese becomes WNBA rebound queen
The Chicago Sky forward set the new benchmark during Sunday's game suring Sylvia Fowles' previous record of 404 rebounds set in 2018.
Reese's sixth rebound of the night pushed her to 405 for the season, with an entire half still remaining in the game and eight more contests left in the regular season.
Reese entered the matchup just five rebounds shy of Fowles' all-time mark and wasted little time in making history.
She now leads the league with an average of 12.9 rebounds per game, a full rebound ahead of the WNBA's two-time MVP A'ja Wilson.
With eight games remaining in the season, Reese could potentially set a record that will stand for years, possibly ending the season with as many as 517 rebounds.
Angel Reese still in Rookie of the Year race
Her rebounding prowess is no accident, and it's not just a testament to her physical abilities but also her work ethic.
In a recent interview ahead of the record-breaking game, Reese reflected on her unexpected presence in the Rookie of the Year conversation despite being the seventh overall pick in the draft.
"Coming into the league, obviously, I believed in myself and I trust in the process,"Reese remarked.
"A lot of people didn't think my game would translate so just coming in and trusting the process and believing in myself. I mean, I was pick seven. I'm not supposed to be in the rookie of the year conversations, but I am because of how hard I work. And not just offensively. On the defensive end and being able to rebound. Rebounding is something that you have to want to do. It's not something that's easy and I don't have anything in my life that's been easy for me. So I really enjoy doing it. I really enjoy doing things that other players don't want to do. So just being able to leave my impact on the game and doing something that'll be a representation of me for a long time in this league."
Reese's ability to dominate on the boards has been a defining feature of her rookie campaign.
Since the Olympic break, she has averaged an astounding 16.1 rebounds over seven games, becoming the first WNBA player to collect 20 rebounds in three consecutive games.
Her 23 double-doubles this season have also set a new standard, suring the previous record held by Tina Charles.
As Reese continues to rewrite the record books, her focus remains on pushing the Sky toward a successful postseason.
Chicago currently holds the No. 8 seed with an 11-10 record, and Reese's contributions on both ends of the court will be crucial in their playoff push.
