Caitlin Clark is taking part in an LPGA event, The Annika, in Florida, and she very nearly made headlines for all the wrong reasons on Wednesday.

The Indiana Fever star is usually the sharpest of shooters on the basketball court, but it appears that accuracy doesn't extend to the golf course.

It looks as though the 22-year-old had some nerves when she stepped out to the packed tee, as she very nearly sent her driver into a group of fans that were standing just a few feet away.

While that may come as a surprise to some people, it shouldn't if you consider that Clark itted she isn't the greatest of golfers just a day earlier. In fact, she even stated one of her goals was not to hit the crowd in attendance.

"I'm just the average golfer. I'm going to hit some good, I'm going to hit some bad," she said. "It is what it is. Just going to try not to hit anyone standing outside of the ropes.

"But it'll be fun. I'm excited for it. I think I'm just excited honestly. I'm not a professional golfer, so I think just having fun."

Even though she did manage to hit the fairway on her opening hole, Clark, who was paired up with LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam and World No.1 Nelly Korda, should probably ask them for a few pointers the next time she steps out on to the greens.

Clark not new to pro-ams

Clark has some time to work on her golf game if she wants, as the WNBA season doesn't begin again until May.

When the Fever were eliminated from the playoffs this past season, she joked that she would play golf until it became too cold to do so in Indiana.

"I've tried to take as much time as I can to practice, but there is only so much hope. You just cross your fingers, pray," she said Tuesday.

"No, I've practiced a little bit and I just had the quote about becoming a professional golfer. Everybody thought I was serious. I was not serious. I love it. I love being outside and making it competitive with my friends.

"It's challenging and getting to come here and be around the best and have a good time is what I'm looking forward to."
