Mexican boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faced a significant setback as he was arrested in Los Angeles for illegal possession of an assault rifle.
The news was confirmed by his father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., who expressed hope that this incident would mark a turning point for his son.
"I confirm the news that spread today," Chavez Sr. noted.
"My son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was arrested, and we are working with his lawyers to resolve his legal situation. I ask God that this is the moment that propels my son towards a useful and happy life."
Facing scrutiny
Chavez Jr. has been marred by controversies, using social media to voice grievances against his father and wife, even insulting his followers.
Additionally, reports of his hospitalization in the U.S. due to drug dependence surfaced, a claim acknowledged by his father.
However, Chavez Jr. publicly denied the reports and spoke of his comeback to the boxing ring at nearly 38 years old.
The recent arrest adds another layer to the challenges faced by Chavez Jr., and his family is actively engaged in addressing the legal ramifications.
Recently, Chavez Jr. talked about how his father and ex-wife Frida Munoz would be responsible for anything bad happening to him.
"If something happens to me it's Frida and my dad's fault. They make me look like I'm crazy and she wins in court and she grabs the money and makes me look crazy. Imagine, for the family to do something and make me look crazy, so I'm saying before the situation happens," he is heard saying in a video shared by El Boxglero.
