Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are taking most of the headlines, rightfully so, but the co-main for the July 20 event will feature two of the best women's boxers to ever lace up the gloves.
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will go toe-to-toe to decide the undisputed lightweight champion, two years after their historic fight where Taylor came out on top.
Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor aim to revolutionize women's boxing... again
While speaking about the co-main, former world champion Paulie Malignaggi heaped praise on Paul for allowing the rematch to happen. And for setting it all in motion years ago.
Serrano is an example of the positives that Jake has brought to the table here. Serrano would be one of the uncovered gems in boxing. In the New York area we've always known Serrano can fight... but no one was getting to know her, she wasn't getting her shots. Because of the connection with Jake she was able to show this immense talent she has on a larger and broader scale. That's why we had that terrific fight between Serrano and Taylor.
Malignaggi finishes by addressing the negative reputation Paul has developed, defending him by saying that he "takes care of his people, including people in boxing".
The first fight between Serrano and Taylor was epic, to say the least. Dubbed one of the most important boxing bouts in history, it was the first time ever that a women's match headlined Madison Square Garden.
As Serrano's promoter, under his Most Valuable Promotions company, Paul helped make it all happen behind the scenes. Serrano lost, but she and Taylor left an indelible mark on the sport. Now, the two will look to amplify their reach on July 20.
