Canelo Alvarez continues to weigh up his options for his next hand-picked fight, and there is a sense that any possible rematch against Dmitry Bivol will not take place any time soon.
After his rare defeat to the Russian, Canelo immediately spoke about a rematch against Bivol to put things right.
However, that rematch has not yet been scheduled with the pair having their own separate fights in the meantime.
Canelo has been criticized for how he picks opponents in recent years, with many suggesting that he looks for the easiest avenue possible.
However, with this criticism comes pressure, and many wonder why Canelo didn't push for a rematch against the Russian when it was possible.
After defending his WBA Light-Heavyweight title against Alvarez in 2022, Bivol was open to a rematch at Super-Middleweight for Canelo's titles.
However, Canelo insisted on facing Bivol at 175 lbs., which led to a stalemate. Now, Dmitry Bivol has moved on and is no longer interested in Canelo Alvarez or a rematch.
What has changed Bivol's mind?
Last year, Canelo Alvarez accused Dmitry Bivol of complicating negotiations while Canelo claimed he did his best to secure the rematch.
But Bivol, aiming to become an undisputed champion, saw no benefit in rematching Alvarez at 175 lbs. Consequently, the Russian boxer shifted his focus to Artur Beterbiev, the IBF, WBC, and WBO Light-Heavyweight champion.
Bivol and Beterbiev were scheduled to fight in June. However, Beterbiev withdrew due to a ruptured meniscus, postponing the bout to October 12. In the interim, Bivol fought Malik Zinad and secured a sixth-round TKO win.
Now, Bivol is preparing for Beterbiev, leaving no room for a rematch with Canelo Alvarez, as he was quick to point out to the media.
"I don't have him in my schedule or my mind," Bivol stated.
"It's somewhere else now. I have another way. Maybe in the future, we could see each other again. But not in the near future. I can't see it."
