Nate Diaz is in the final stretch to meet Jorge Masvidal again, but this time in a boxing ring, as the two former UFC fighters step into a different ring on Saturday.
The pair will square off for the second time on July 6 when they face each other at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
It will be the first time they face each other since their UFC duel in 2019, which Masvidal won by knockout in the third round, and Diaz will be keen for revenge.
Diaz ed the UFC in 2006 and spent 16 years in the sport before waving goodbye to mixed martial arts in 2022. He retired following his final fight, in which he defeated Tony Ferguson by submission at UFC 279.
That memorable encounter brought the curtain down on his career which featured unforgettable fights against Josh Neer, Melvin Guillard and Rory Markham, while he maintained a strong rivalry with Conor McGregor.
He was a pay-per-view magnet with second and fourth place-finishes during his fights against Conor McGregor, with a $1.6 million rematch at UFC 202.
Nate Diaz and his boxing winnings
During a career in which he had 35 fights with 22 wins and 13 losses, Diaz amassed a net worth of around $8 million between fight earnings and sponsorships.
His last fight against Ferguson alone netted him a total purse of $971,000, which was broken down into $500,000 for stepping into the octagon, $400,000 from PPV, a $50,000 performance bonus and $21,000 from sponsorships.
After retiring from the UFC, Diaz dabbled in boxing for an exhibition fight against YouTuber Jake Paul and was defeated. But what he didn't come out of the fight with nothing - the 39-year-old pocketed a huge profit that reportedly far exceeded what he was making in mixed martial arts.
Following his bout against Paul in August 2023, Bloody Elbow's John Nash spoke to Zach Rosenfield - Diaz's longtime representative - about the UFC legend going 50-50 with Paul on the entire profit from the fight, which was estimated to be five times more than the $4 million earned from the McGregor rematch.
