Eddie Hearn was left red faced at a press conference with Jaron Ennis when he said he's feeling a bit too excited by the prospect of Jaron Ennis' career after he stopped David Avanesyan within five rounds.
It was the first defense of Ennis' IBF Welterweight title since he ed Hearn's Matchroom promotion, and the pair are targeting bigger things as Hearn insists he will be around for years to come.
But he got slightly carried away in his enthusiasm of hyping up a fight against Terence Crawford, who currently holds The Ring, WBA and WBO Welterweight titles and previously was undisputed light-welterweight in 2017.
"I've not thought about that," Hearn said of an alternative fight suggestion. "Him [Ennis] versus Boots [Ennis' nickname] at the ballpark.. Him versus Crawford at the ballpark... F**k me.
"This table's about to jump up in a minute, that's got me really excited."
The joke then lingered in the air as the reporters heard what he said, as he glanced at his crotch, before laughter broke out from all present and he played it off quickly by saying, "No diddy," to more laughter.
How good is Jaron Ennis?
Jaron "Boots" Ennis, aged 27, has fought 33 times in his career since his debut in 2016 and has impressed with a strong 32 wins with 29 knockouts. He has never lost, but one bout was scored as a no contest when his opponent was cut from an accidental head clash.
That was for the IBO Welterweight title, and he would have to wait another three years before he could finally get his hands on a belt when he became the IBF Welterweight champion in July 2024 after holding the interim belt since January 2023.
But how good is he? Eddie Hearn appears to rate him very highly.
"I'll say it, I think he beats everyone," Hearn said of Jaron Ennis. "I think this is a special fighter that needs to be tested against the best in the world and that's our job now.
"Activity is key. Too many of these great young fighters are too inactive. We must get him back out October, November, we'd love to return to Philadelphia. We got to bring the bigger fights here, the unification fights. He's going to be around for a long time."
