Mexican boxer Pitbull Cruz will defend his World Boxing Association super lightweight title against Jose Valenzuela, in a bout that is part of the bill in which Terence Crawford will headline the show with his fight against Israil Madrimov.
The show will take place at BMO Stadium, home of Los Angeles FC of the MLS, and Cruz feels the obligation to come out on top in the first defense of his title won in March of this year.
"I've had enough preparation to fight on August 3 in great condition," said Cruz, who talked about the change from 135 to 140 pounds. "It hasn't been that drastic because we have worked with great specialists who have adapted my preparation and nutrition so that my body can adapt in the best way possible."
Cruz defeated Rolando Romero last March 30 to snatch the super lightweight world championship belt, so this Saturday he will have the first defense of his title.
However, the Mexican knows that the fight against the American Valenzuela will not be an easy fight, but he wants to show in the ring the reason why he is the world champion.
"He is a good fighter, I respect every opponent who has fought me. My goal is to prove to him that I am the world champion. I will still be the world champion when I finish this fight and take the belt home," Cruz assured in statements to BoxingScene.
