Canelo confirms he wants Crawford: The order doesn't matter

Doesn't care if Crawford attends first to WBO mandate, which wants him to face Fundora

Canelo confirms he wants Crawford: The order doesn't matter

As of today, Canelo Alvarez has only confirmed that he will face Edgar Berlanga on September 14 in Las Vegas and nothing else has been confirmed, although the unified super middleweight champion is never short of suitors.

In recent times he has been attributed mainly two 'boyfriends': David Benavidez and Terence Crawford. In favor of the latter, not only plays his impeccable pedigree, but it is a duel that a priori has the backing of the new boxing boss, Sheikh Turki Alalshikh, although agreeing on the figures will be a tricky issue.

The fact is that the last few hours have been hectic, as the WBO has officially ordered Sebastian Fundora to defend his WBC and WBO super welterweight world titles in a unified fight against Crawford. 'Bud' currently holds the WBA championship belt in this category which he took from Israil Madrimov and also holds the WBO interim.

Fundora's promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, does not take it for granted that the Omaha fighter will accept this challenge, as he assures that he has his sights set on the large sum he could receive if he faces Canelo.

During the summer it has been reported that Fundora reached an agreement to face Errol Spence, with whom he has been negotiating for months, and he would have to abandon this route and go against Crawford if he does not want the WBO title to be handed directly to his rival.

The Spence option is not bad, but the 'Bud' option is much better.

And how does this affect Canelo? After facing Berlanga, if everything goes his way, he wouldn't be back in the ring as usual until May 2025.

Boxing Scene has obtained the Jalisco native's response, regarding how a supposed fight against Crawford would be framed, now that he has the obligation to fight Fundora: "I'm not saying that fight [against Crawford] can't happen. The order doesn't matter."

After September 14, the picture will become clearer and maybe in 2025 we will see the big showdown. Mind you, Terence would do well to test himself at super middleweight before fighting the king of this division.
