Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez recently defeated Edgar Berlanga by a clear unanimous decision to retain all of his Super Middleweight world titles and declared that he would be resting for the remainder of the year.
But the fact that the Guadalajara native is 'on pause' the end of the year does not mean that the information around him is calm, especially with his possible next opponent.
Canelo Alvarez asks for $150m for fight with Terence Crawford
Requests from Terence Crawford and Turki Alalshikh, the sheikh promoter behind the 'desired' fight, have launched challenges to Canelo Alvarez, the latest on the night of the Mexican's win over Berlanga.
"Crawford is the biggest fight in boxing. We are ready. We have to get ready for this," said The Bud in a video the night of the tapatío's fight.
For his part Canelo, who in previous interviews has said he would fight Crawford for $150 million, confirmed that after his break he would return in May 2025.
"Right now I'm going to rest, I don't have anything in mind. Afterwards I will talk with Eddy (Reynoso), Al Haymon and Luis (deCubas Jr.) to see what's coming, but there is nothing we can say right now... we will see what's coming in May," said the Mexican in the press conference after the fight with Berlanga.
Canelo vs Crawford reported on May 3
Information is now circulating that Saul Alvarez is very likely to accept the bout against Crawford in May, according to journalist Sean Zittel on the Porter Way Podcast.
"To clarify: I shared things I gathered/heard during the past fight week from those close to the information that I am. I didn't hear that it's confirmed... that's why I said 'a very legit possibility,' but nothing about the fight being confirmed," he shared on X.
