While Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has not confirmed his next opponent for May 2025, rumors and opponents will abound.
In recent weeks, the one who seems to be looking for his opportunity against Canelo Alvarez is Chris Eubank Jr., the Middleweight world champion of the International Boxing Organization (IBO).
Ben Shalom, Eubank Jr's promoter: "I was surprised they denied it"
The 35-year-old Briton's team has said they are in talks to finalise the fight with the Guadalajara native, but Eddy Reynoso, Alvarez's trainer, has denied this.
That's why Ben Shalom, Eubank Jr.'s promoter, came out to clarify the situation and identify who he has had his conversations with.
"I've obviously been speaking to his lawyer, Greg Smith, who we always speak to about that fight. And yes, we've been talking since the fight against (Kamil) Szeretema, so I think maybe it was a communication problem on their side.
I still think the fight can happen, I think it will happen. I don't think it's going to be next, because Canelo traditionally fights in May and September and we want to see Chris fight in February or March.
"Yes, I was surprised to see that (Reynoso denied it), but I think it's a communication problem on their side because yes, we've been talking. I think the news blew out of proportion like everything around Canelo, but yes we have had little conversations and we have re-communicated," Shalom explained to Sky Sports Boxing.
Eddy Reynoso closes the door on Chris Eubank
For his part, Eddy Reynoso has made it clear that they have no intention of negotiating with Chris Eubank after they tried to do so for September, when Canelo fought Edgar Berlanga, and the Briton only complicated things.
"Eubank had his chance to fight Canelo in September, and all he did was complicate negotiations. We will not touch base with him again for future fights," Reynoso told Dan Rafael.
