The rape accusations against boxing legend Mike Tyson have been officially dropped after the woman who accused him of the crime in 1991 voluntarily withdrew her lawsuit.

A letter filed in U.S. District Court confirmed that the acc decided to drop the lawsuit.

Tyson's attorney, Daniel Rubin, shared that the acc's lawyer, Darren Seilback, notified him that the plaintiff was withdrawing the complaint. Seilback had not publicly commented on the matter until Tuesday, explaining that the lawsuit was dropped after a judge ruled on February 4 to deny the woman's motion to amend her complaint.

The woman had originally claimed that the alleged assault occurred on March 1, 1991, but later corrected this date to March 1, 1990.

Tyson is looking to move forward

In response to the case's withdrawal, Rubin commented on the process.

"While not surprising, given the baseless allegations, we are pleased with the result - a complete withdrawal of all claims without any compensation, concession, or settlement of any kind from Mr. Tyson," Rubin stated.

"This suit never should have been filed, and this is the correct outcome."

Seilback, the woman's attorney, expressed disappointment over the case's dismissal.

"We are extremely disappointed that the court did not allow us to amend the pleadings in the case. It's a shame our client's case had to be dismissed on procedural grounds. We stand by our client's of the events and her 100 percent," Seilback's statement read.

The controversy began when the woman filed an amended complaint in January 2023, accusing Tyson of raping her after meeting at an Albany nightclub. She claimed she had suffered from physical, psychological, and emotional injury due to the alleged assault.

However, during a February 4 hearing, Judge Mitchell J. Katz stated that the plaintiff had failed to show due diligence in determining the exact date of the alleged rape. The judge also pointed out that the plaintiff's medical records and a hospital bracelet indicated that the event in question occurred in 1989 and was unrelated to Tyson.

With the case now officially dropped, Tyson's legal team is pleased with the outcome, while the woman's legal team remains firm in their of her . Despite the case's dismissal, the allegations have cast a shadow over Tyson's legacy, though it has now come to a close.
