Following his victory over Bruno Surace on May 4, Jaime Munguia found himself in serious trouble when a subsequent urine test revealed the presence of a banned substance, which could result in the invalidation of his victory.
According to The Ring, Jaime received a notice on Wednesday night from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding the detection of external testosterone metabolites in Test A. They are currently working on a formal response.
They confirmed that they will request analysis of the boxer's B sample. Munguia has 10 days to request the second test, which will clarify whether the testosterone metabolites came from an external source.
If the B sample confirms the initial positive result, Munguia's victory over Surace would be invalidated, and he could receive a suspension ranging from six months to one year, similar to the one Ryan Garcia faced last year. So far, Golden Boy Promotions has not provided an official statement.

The Mexican boxer posted a statement and video on his Instagram . In the video, he faces the camera and says that he is very calm because he knows he did nothing wrong. He also offers to take the necessary tests to prove he is clean.
"I am surprised like everyone else. I am a clean athlete. I am willing to take all the necessary tests."
Bruno Surace, for his part, was furious at the news.
"There is no place for cheating in boxing. The sport is dangerous enough. I knew he couldn't beat me on a level playing field. I am confident that the result of the fight will be reversed immediately," the Frenchman said in an interview with The Ring.
Canelo's entire team was also targeted on social media because it is not unusual for someone from the group to test positive.
