George Russell will start on pole for the first time in his career after pipping Carlos Sainz to top spot during Saturday's qualifying for the 2022 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Spaniard looked set for his second career pole after improving his time on his final lap, with Charles Leclerc seemingly completing the all-Ferrari front row.
However the Mercedes driver stunned everyone by setting a 1:17.377, 0.044s faster than the Ferrari driver.
It's the first time the Silver Arrows start first on the grid this season, and was especially unexpected given their lack of pace in FP3 earlier in the day.
"Over the moon, absolutely buzzing, yesterday was probably our worst Friday of the season and everyone last night was working so hard, we didn't really know what direction to go in," Russell said.
"But that last lap I got round Turn One, Turn Two, and the lap times just kept on coming. I came across the line and looked at the screen and saw P1 and it was an incredible feeling."
Lando Norris will start fourth after an impressive showing for McLaren, with the Alpine pair of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso behind him.
Lewis Hamilton didn't match the success of his Mercedes teammate. He struggled throughout Q3 and could only finish with the seventh fastest time.
It was still better than Max Verstappen's day. The championship leader seemed to suffer a loss of power towards the end of the session, meaning he'll start Sunday's race in 10th.
That only added to Red Bull's disappointing afternoon, as Sergio Perez will start 11th after failing to make it out of Q2.
