- F1. Mercedes do not believe that Sergio Perez will win the Canadian GP
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has not held back in criticizing Sergio Perez's recent performances.
With the F1 Canadian Grand Prix approaching, Marko has reiterated his concerns.
Marko referred Perez's outings in Miami, where he finished second, and Monaco, where he came 16th, although he acknowledged the improvement with a fourth-place finish in Barcelona after starting from 11th on the grid.
"After his rather weak performances in Miami and Monaco, I just reminded Sergio that he should concentrate on his job," Marko told Sport 1.
"He didn't take advantage of the potential he had, but in Max he has an opponent who is so difficult to beat. And it's not just him, but any driver at the moment would have the same trouble."
The former driver expressed his belief that Perez may struggle to compete with his teammate Max Verstappen, who is the current championship leader and a two-time Formula 1 champion.
"He should concentrate on himself and not try desperately to beat Max," Marko noted.
"He should be there when things aren't going optimally for Max. Sergio's place has never been in jeopardy and will never be in jeopardy."
