- F 1. Hamilton shows his for Checo Perez: There are people at Red Bull who don't him
Chris Horner's statement during Mexico's GP race made headlines after Checo Perez's results at the halfway point of the Formula 1 season in 2023. There has been some speculation about whether or not he'd return for 2024 to fulfill the last year of his contract with the team, however, this information was completely denied by Chris Horner, CEO of Red Bull.
During the first day of activities of the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix, Red Bull was dominant with Max Verstappen as leader, and Sergio Pérez had a good run, although he finished fifth.
Horner's wink to Pérez
"People always have newspapers to fill. There's never been a discussion about it, we're focused on getting that 1-2, something we've never had as a team before, and hopefully, we can get it this year. "There is no premise that if Checo doesn't finish second he won't be there next year," the Red Bull boss told during a press conference.
Chris Horner opens up about Perez's contract
Red Bull Racing's top boss Chris Horner gave a few minutes to ESPN to discuss everything related to the drivers for the next F1 season.
"No (there is no special plan), we worked very hard during the year with the set-up and we know we have a great car, hopefully, we can make it useful for him this weekend," commented the man responsible for the team that has dominated F1 for the last two years.
"It is something very, very far away at the moment, it depends on Checo and we have to be able to provide what is necessary for him to show the best of his ability", Horner clarified about a possible exit from the best team of the few last years.
Red Bull had a period of total dominance with Sebastian Vettel before he left for Ferrari, and then came the Mercedes era where they were the masters of the sport. Now, Red Bull has the best driver duo and the team hopes that in 2024 they can keep Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez."We've had a great run, but we prefer to look forward not back and 2024 has already started for us," he added.
