Formula 1 driver and Monaco native Charles Leclerc made history on Sunday with his first Monaco Grand Prix victory. But what he did after made it even more legendary.
Leclerc bikes home from Monaco GP
Still draped in full Ferrari gear and a fancy watch, Leclerc appeared in someone's rearview mirror for the first time on Sunday as dusk fell on the streets of Monaco. A fan traveling by car recorded the incredible scene as they ed by Leclerc riding his bike home from work, just like a regular Monacan would.
Formula 1 fans took the viral video and ran with it. Already a fan favorite and the apple of Camila Cabello's eye, his humble commute home allowed his legend to grow.
Fans adore humble Leclerc
"100% respect. He is so humble. First thing he said after winning, he thanks his father for all the sacrifices he made for him to run. The trophy of life for him," one fan lauded in the Instagram comments.
"His mom calling that dinner is ready, time to go back home after play for whole day outside," joked another to the tune of nearly 3,000 likes.
Although it is hard to confirm that it was for sure Leclerc in the video, the unique Ferrari clothes and jewelry seemed to match. One supposed eyewitness from the race also left a comment on the video on Instagram confirming the story.
"He rode right past me at the exit for the K grandstands as I walked to the train. Baffling. Nobody bothered him. So so cool."
A local legend
After failing to convert a Monaco pole position into a win in 2021, Leclerc tweeted: "Monaco I love you and hopefully one day you will love me back." With the so-called "Monaco curse" now broken after a dominant victory over second placed Oscar Piastri, there is no doubt that day has come.
Who would have thought his ride off into the sunset would be on a bike, not a race car?
