The miniseries 'Senna' was released in November 2024 on Netflix and has been a worldwide success. It has also received a generally good reception from critics. Its action scenes on track with the single-seaters have been the most praised
However, not everyone liked it. And among them, there is one protagonist who is not exactly happy with the result. It is Alain Prost, four-time F1 world champion and great rival of the Brazilian on the circuits at that time
The miniseries is autobiographical, with six episodes, and narrates the trajectory of the three-time Sao Paulo champion from his first steps in motorsport, with karts as a child, to his death in the San Marino Grand Prix, at Imola, in 1994 in a Williams F1
Criticism
The former French driver is harsh on this television product. "I'm sure Ayrton wouldn't like it, especially as it shows a lack of sensitivity. It's a great story and you shouldn't tell things that aren't true out of thin air," he told RMC
The Frenchman hints that 'show' has been sought above other aspects. "If you have to do something commercial, it's not right to do it in Senna's name. I don't like it and I don't accept it," he proclaims
Senna family consent
The miniseries was helped by Ayrton's family, who had been behind such a project for several years. The competitor's own sister reflected this in 2020. "It's very special to be able to announce that we will tell the story that only a few people know about him. The Senna family is committed to making this project something totally unique and unprecedented," announced Vivian when it all began to take shape
Prost and the film
Before the series, there was already a film about the Brazilian myth, in 2010, in documentary format and entitled 'Senna'. It was directed by Asif Kapadia, who had already made other award-winning documentaries. It was released in cinemas and then on various platforms. It was even more critical of Prost's figure, who equally abhors this film. "I am annoyed by the film that was made. They could have told a fabulous story, because there was what happened when we were racing and after I retired. The film claims that his last message 'I miss you Alain' was false. Well, I think the film was false," said Alain
