Welcome back! The F1 season is oficially on after an amazing parrty

"He worked until the last moment, having communicated on St Patrick's Day his ambitions for the London Irish Rugby Football Club, of which he had recently become owner."

"EJ brought charisma, energy and Irish charm everywhere. We all feel a great void without his presence. Many people will miss him, but he leaves us with a lot of unforgettable memories that will make us smile in the midst of our pain," the statement concludes.

The last of the old school

Famous for founding the Jordan F1 team (1991-2005), one of those teams that bore the name of the boss, like Williams in its day, the Irishman became famous immediately for his charisma and his clinical eye for bringing in unknown drivers. He was the one who put Michael Schumacher in his first F1 car at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, to replace Bertrand Gachot, and the German left his mark with a seventh place on the grid at the first attempt.

In the race, the clutch let him down, but the 22-year-old had already begun his career as one of the greatest of all time. It was so dazzling that within two weeks Flavio Briatore had signed Schumacher to Benetton for the next race

From pilot to owner

Born in Dublin, Jordan rose through the ranks as a budding driver before turning to team ownership. During his time behind the wheel during the 1970s and early 1980s, Jordan triumphed in the Irish Karting Championship and competed in categories such as Formula Ford, Formula 3 and Formula 2, as well as taking part in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

By the late 1970s, Jordan had created his own eponymous team in the world of single-seaters, steadily rising through the ranks to earn a place on the F1 grid in 1991.

Seven years after Schumacher's debut, it was Damon Hill who took Jordan's first victory in a dramatic, rain-soaked 1998 Belgian Grand Prix. His teammate, Ralf Schumacher, followed him to the finish line to complete a historic result for the Silverstone-based squad.

Jordan won more races with Heinz-Harald Frentzen in 1999, when the driver and team emerged as surprise title contenders, before a fourth and final victory, from Giancarlo Fisichella, in the memorable 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix.

In 2005 Vijay Mallya bought the team and turned it into Force India, from whose ashes (Racing Point) emerged the current Aston Martin of Lawrence Stroll, refounded as such in 2021.

Commentator and Newey's manager

In recent years, Jordan has alternated between working as a commentator for the BBC and various business activities. Recently, he was Adrian Newey's representative, facilitating his early departure from Red Bull to take up a new position at Aston Martin. They shared a ion for sailing and a friendship of many years, and Christian Horner was stunned to see him appear to negotiate his severance package with Red Bull in March-April last year.

Jordan was also an avid music enthusiast; he formed his own band and played the drums and spoon, in addition to other hobbies such as golf, cycling and the arts, and had an extensive portfolio of business activities.

F1 in mourning

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Eddie Jordan," said F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali. "With his boundless energy, he always knew how to make people smile, remaining genuine and brilliant at all times. Eddie was a protagonist of an era in F1 and he will be greatly missed."

"At this time of pain, my thoughts and those of the entire Formula 1 family are with his family and loved ones," said the Italian leader.
