The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has approved GM Performance Power Units (General Motors) as a new engine manufacturer for Formula 1. However, the American company will not enter the top category of motorsport until 2029, when it will become the official supplier for the Cadillac team, which will make its debut in the next Formula 1 season
Until then, due to a scenario where the power units will land in the category later, the new 11th team will work with Ferrari engines in 2026, 2027 and 2028. General Motorsmotorsport executive director Russ O'Blenes was delighted: "With this FIA approval, we will continue to ramp up our efforts to get to the grid with a US-made F1 engine".

In this way, as O'Blenes points out, this will become the only power unit created in the United States. The rest of the FIA-approved powertrains are manufactured in different parts of the world: Italy (Ferrari), Japan (Honda), United Kingdom (Mercedes and Red Bull-Ford) and , with the and novel Audi engine.
