"Neymar is not going to leave the club," is what those at Barcelona keep saying when asked about the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain meeting the winger's buyout clause of 222 million euros and snatching him from the Camp Nou.
The Catalans are not contemplating that the Brazilian can leave, and with a move that, including fee, salary and taxes, could amount to nearly 600 million euros, they doubt that it is a possibility under Financial Fair Play.
However, PSG's interest is real and although the Parisians are not speaking publicly about the move, they are working in silence as they try to pull of the most expensive transfer of all time, smashing the world record fee in the process.
Neymar, having enjoyed a day off in Formentera with his father and friends, is due to fly with Barcelona to the United States for the club's pre-season tour, but his father will have a decision to make, taking into the player's wishes of whether he wants to stay at the Camp Nou or move to the Parc des Princes.
That, ultimately, is where the deal rests: Neymar's own decision.
If PSG get the player's go-ahead, they are happy to match his astronomical release clause to take him from Barcelona without the Catalans being able to stop it.
Barcelona, meanwhile, say they are calm and that they know Neymar is happy in Spain and, if that's true, then it is the Parisians who can do no more.
