It was a night to for the MLS and another night to forget for the Liga MX, as Seattle Sounders FC once again dominated Pumas. It was a 4-0 final score in the Round of 16 matchup that put the team from the Pacific Northwest in the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup.
The last time these two teams met on Lumen Field, it was also the home team who took the victory, that time by a score of 3 a 0 on the second leg of the 2022 Concacaf Champions League. They had previously tied in Mexico City 2-2 in the first leg.
This time, the result gave the Sounders the possibility to inch one step closer to the Leagues Cup final in search for a trophy that is the only one missing on their trophy case and the victim was once again a Mexican team that has fallen short once more.
The dominance from MLS
22 out of 32 teams the started the knockout stage of the tournament are from the MLS, the dominance is remarkable and the crowd know it very well. The rivalry between the national teams have transcended to the local clubs and in great part because the American teams have prevailed in the past 20 years, something that the Mexican squads can not tolerate and wish to eliminate soon.
However, the MLS is growing and not only in of number of clubs, but also in quality of their players and with great international additions like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez just to name a few. It seems the Mexican leagues has not advanced in the past years.
