A forgettable first half for LAFC
The game's first half was not what people at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles expected, they wanted to see their team dominate the game but they got the exact opposite. Early in the game, Sebastian Berhalter connected a long-range shot that was also perfectly placed and away from the goalie. It took everybody by surprise and it completely changed the mood of the game for the locals. But over ten minutes later, Ranko Veselinovic connected a header during a corner that gave the Whitecaps a 0-2 away advantage that leaves them practically set to have the top of Group G in their hands.
By the second half, the visitors only needed to stand back and defend that two-goal advantage. If they got one goal scored against, the Whitecaps were still going to be able to defend the result. All they had to do was hold the line for as long as possible and still get a goal scored against them. with three minutes on the clock, Sierra Leone veteran striker Kei Kamara scored a header that pulled one back for LAFC with a few minutes left on the clock. The last minutes were pretty wild as the game went all the way to the 95th minute.
Mati Bogusz headed a ball in front of the goalkeeper after a wild strike found him. The Leagues Cup's elimination rule states that any game ending in a draw goes straight to penalties for the victory. From the spot, the Whitecaps wonthe game 2-4 and tied LAFC with three points on the table. LAFC only got 3 points in their two matches, they need Tijuana to win if they don't want to get elimiated.
