A VAR check at the death of this game saw a penalty awarded to Brighton & Hove Albion for a Luke Shaw handball, and Alexis MacAllister gave the home fans something to celebrate with a powerful penalty into the top corner.

It came after a tense game with over 30 shots in total, which left both teams were cursing their luck not to have taken the lead, and Brighton had goalkeeper Jason Steele to thank for some heroic saves. The result means that Manchester United keep up the pressure in the race for Europe as they moved to sixth.

Rashford's early chance

The first few minutes gave both teams chances as Antony found himself in a great position and then Julio Enciso fired a sitter of a chance right at David de Gea's face.

At the other end, Steele was called into action and made a fantastic save with his feet to deny Marcus Rashford after his pace sent him away from the Brighton defence.

At half-time, it felt as though the Red Devils were the dominant force, but the game would turn on its head in the second period.

Brighton's threat on the counter

Arguably the best chance of the second period fell to the home team with only moments left on the clock, as the Seagulls upped the pressure. On the counter, Solly March found space to send an effort just wide of the right post, and minutes later David de Gea had to get down to deny Alexis MacAllister a late winner.

But the Argentinian did eventually get it on 99 minutes as he stepped up with composure to seal a crucial win which upsets the balance of the race for European football next season.
