Sevilla spring a surprise: Isco to sign on a free transfer

Sevilla have sprung a summer transfer window surprise this Sunday by confirming that they have reached an agreement for Isco Alarcon to the club on a free transfer.

?The former Real Madrid man has been a free agent since his contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu expired on June 30, and his apparent inability to find a new club was a surprise.

With the move, Isco has been reunited with coach Julen Lopetegui, having arguably played the best football of his career under him with both Spain and Real Madrid.

It is thought that Isco's financial demands reduced as the summer progressed, allowing Sevilla to sign him.

Now 30, Isco wants to continue playing at the highest level and he turned down a number of offers from overseas. His preference has always been to keep playing in Spain, and ing an Andalusian side who are in the Champions League is a perfect move for him.

In Seville, though, he will face a lot of competition for minutes. Sevilla already have Papu Gomez, Ivan Rakitic, Oliver Torres and Suso in his role.

But Monchi, Lopetegui and Sevilla have put their trust in Isco and they believe that he will succeed at the club.

Monchi and Lopetegui were keen to bring Isco in to provide more depth, particularly with Suso still recovering from a long-term injury.
