Pop icon Britney Spears was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol last month for driving without a license and failing to provide proof of insurance, according to court records obtained by Page Six on Tuesday. The violations resulted in a balance of $1,140 due.
However, Spears' attorney, Mathew Rosengart, told Page Six exclusively that "Britney at all times had a license and insurance; this is the functional equivalent of a parking ticket." A second insider also confirmed that the "Piece of Me" singer "had and has insurance and a license."
Despite having a major book release on the same day as her court appearance, sources clarified that there is no actual court appearance, and any outstanding payments can be made online. Spears is set to release her highly anticipated memoir, "The Woman In Me," on October 24.
Spears' run-in with cops due to a traffic violation preceded a home visit from officers later in the month. Police visited the "Circus" singer at her Thousand Oaks, Calif., mansion on September 27 after a concerning video of her dancing with knives went viral. However, after police performed a wellness check, Spears' security let them know via an intercom that she was "fine" and "nothing was going on."

Spears then took to Instagram to speak out on the entire ordeal, itting that she knew she "spooked" her fans with her worrisome video but insisted that they were "fake knives." She added, "These are not real knives. No one needs to worry or call the police. I'm trying to imitate one of my favorite performers Shakira ... a performance I was inspired by!!"
It's unclear whether Spears will face any consequences for driving without a valid license and failing to provide proof of insurance. However, sources confirmed that the pop star does have car insurance despite the violations.
