Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has been called out for persistently touching Oprah Winfrey during an interview on her talk show which made viewers uncomfortable.
The '50 First Dates' star, 48, now has her own talk show, 'The Drew Barrymore Show', which is distributed by CBS. And who better to have on a talk show than Oprah, one of the greatest names in American TV after her success with the Oprah Winfrey Show between 1986 and 2011.
Winfrey appeared on Barrymore's show on Monday where the legendary TV host praised her for beginning a daytime talk show during the Covid pandemic, when she was prevented from filming with a live studio audience due to physical distancing.
One of the noticeable features on Barrymore's show is that she connects with her guests through physical touching - and there was no exception for Winfrey.
Drew Barrymore's physical approach
As the 69-year-old talked, Barrymore held her hand close to her chin and clasped it with a tight grip.
"Something that I learned about you, because I didn't know this detail, was that you would spend time with the audience outside of the show you were filming," Barrymore said to Winfrey.
The billionaire remarked that crowd interaction always felt necessary, replying: "My crew used to be like, 'Oh my God, how much time you should go spend talking to that audience?"
Barrymore continued to hold her hand throughout the interaction before letting go - only this time she began caressing her arm.
Winfrey continued: "That's why this is so hard to do without an audience, and I was complimenting you on the fact that you got through it without an audience because it's almost - because you're not getting their energy. It's their energy. It's their . It's understanding whether whatever you're saying is connecting."
Viewers unhappy with Barrymore behavior
Viewers at home clearly noticed the awkwardness involved and claimed Oprah's body language suggested that Barrymore had made her feel uncomfortable in the exchange.
"Oprah's body language was so clear she wanted her hand back," one viewer proclaimed in the comments on the talk show's Instagram .
"Drew, everyone doesn't want their hands held boo," another chimed in.
A third wrote, "The hand hold and the arm being caressed is past my boundary."
"She's really creeping me out now. It's just too weird," someone else said.
"Oprah's body language says it all. Drew is holding on too much. Oprah is trying to release her hand from Drew's grip. Drew is just too creepy and needy," another agreed.
