Paul Walker, best known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the 'Fast & Furious' series, turned down $10 million way back in 2003 when he was offered the role of one of the most famous superheroes in history.
The actor, who died in 2013 in a car accident, said no to playing Superman. Matt Luber, Walker's manager, and Oakley Lehman, the actor's stunt double, explained as much in the 2018 posthumous documentary about his life, 'I Am Paul Walker'.
"I think it was a $10 million deal, and he was the frontrunner," Luber explained.
"He was up for it, I knew he was thinking about doing it."
"I knew he did not want to do three or four Superman [films] and be Superman for the rest of his life," Lehman continued.
Paul Walker even tried on the Superman costume
Walker even got to try on the Superman suit during a costume fitting, at which point he realized it wasn't for him.
"'I've got an 'S' on, I got a cape, boots, tights ... this is not me. I'm getting the f*** out of here. Gotta go. F*** you.' And he was gone," Luber said that Walker told him.
Walker told the Chicago Sun-Times back in 2003: "Yes, I could have made a gazillion dollars on that franchise. I could probably have bought my own fleet of jets or my own island.
"You know what? I don't need it. My favorite brand of running shoes costs $23. I rarely pay more than $40 for my jeans. Throw in a T-shirt and that costs me $20 or $10 if I buy it on the beach. I don't need a gazillion dollars to manage that kind of lifestyle."
That year, 2003, he released his film '2 Fast 2 Furious', alongside Tyrese Gibson.
