- Celebrities. Cassie Ventura's husband calls out Sean "Diddy" Combs over shocking abuse footage
Sean 'Diddy' Combs has issued a heartfelt apology following the release of a disturbing video showing him physically assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in 2016.
The footage, made public by CNN, depicts Combs engaging in aggressive behavior towards Ventura at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
In a video statement posted on Instagram, Combs addressed the incident directly.
"So difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, sometimes you got to do that. I was f***ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom, but my behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video," he stated. "I was disgusted then when I did it. I'm disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I'm so sorry. But I'm committed to be a better man each and every day. I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm truly sorry."
The surveillance footage, dated March 5, 2016, shows Ventura exiting a hotel room before Combs, clad in a towel, follows her into the hallway.
The video captures Combs grabbing Ventura by the neck, throwing her to the floor, and kicking her twice while she lies motionless.
After a brief struggle, Combs is seen dragging Ventura by her sweatshirt towards a room before walking away. Ventura, who had been dating Combs from 2007 to 2018, settled a federal lawsuit against him last November.
Douglas H. Wigdor, Ventura's attorney, commented on the video's impact, stating, "The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light."
Diddy had denied abusing Cassie
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and the LAPD have acknowledged the video's existence but noted the incident falls outside the prosecutable timeframe for assault charges.
The district attorney's office emphasized the importance of reporting such crimes, while the LAPD confirmed no current investigation involving Combs.
Despite settling the lawsuit quickly after its filing, Combs had previously denied Ventura's allegations of physical and sexual abuse.
His attorney, Ben Brafman, asserted, "A decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an ission of wrongdoing. Mr. Combs' decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best."
