Eminem is back in business as his Houdini single, serving as a teaser for his album, proves to be a great success, partially thanks to cameos from icons such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Pete Davidson leaving fans wowed.
The 51-year-old released his last album in January 2020 but now prepares to stun the rap scene once again with 2024 release of The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), which he has even teased could be the final one of his music career.
So, Eminem, whose real name is Marshal Mathers, appears to be going out with a bang by inviting countless stars of the celebrity sphere to cameo in his single, Houdini, including some of his biggest musical collaborations in the music video.
In the video that dropped on May 31, Dr. Dre is the first to appear by calling Eminem whilst he's in bed in a clear reference to 2002's Without Me, telling the white rapper that a portal back to 22 years ago has opened in the city.
Then steps out a younger version of Eminem, including that famous bleached hair, is now in 2024 as the pair do battle before they merge to become an older version of him as the lyrics continue to rage on.
Then more cameos come thick and fast with appearances from 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Shane Gillis in the comic book sequence of the music video, including Pete Davidson playing the role of his younger self making a joke at his own driving suspension.
How well might this Eminem album do?
Obviously, we are only speculating about how well the album will do since it hasn't actually been released yet, but based on his previous form then Eminem could be in the spotlight for some time.
Music to Be Murdered By explored themes such as social issues, personal struggles, and his place in the rap game, while maintaining his signature aggressive style and complex wordplay. Whilst Music to Be Murdered By - Side B is the deluxe edition, adding 16 new tracks to the original. This release continues the themes and styles of the original album, featuring introspective and socially conscious lyrics.
Both performed exceptionally well, becoming critically acclaimed and sold 279,000 units in its first week of sales. Overall, it went on to sell over a million copies within a year and became the ninth best-selling album of 2020 in the United States.
