- Music. Quincy Jones' last post before his death was dedicated to his daughter and could have been a farewell
- Music. Taylor Swift fans caught in massive ticket scam haunting
The 2025 Grammy Awards nominations are out, and as usual, they've sparked heated debates among music fans.
While artists like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift secured high-profile nods, others like Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa were left out of major categories, igniting a wave of backlash online.
Ariana Grande's Eternal Sunshine dominated charts globally, becoming her seventh studio album to top the Billboard 200 and the U.K. Albums Chart.
With hits like We Can't Be Friends and Yes, And?, which both landed at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Grande broke records, including becoming the first woman to achieve two albums with multiple number one debuts.
Despite these accomplishments, Grande failed to secure nominations in the Big Four categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
However, the album did receive recognition in other categories. The Boy Is Mine was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, while Yes, And? earned a nod for Best Dance Pop Recording.
Fans, however, were far from satisfied. Social media platforms were flooded with comments, with one fan writing, "The snub is so evident wtf happened?"
Another fumed, "The Grammys are a joke." Many pointed out that Eternal Sunshine was one of the year's most acclaimed and commercially successful albums, making its omission even more puzzling.
Dua Lipa Shut Out Despite Critical Acclaim
Dua Lipa's Radical Optimism, released in May 2024, also failed to garner any nominations. The album, which received glowing reviews and charted high internationally, featured hits like Training Session and Houdini.
Fans were shocked, especially since Dua Lipa's previous album, Future Nostalgia, earned her two Grammy nominations and a win for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Dua Lipa described her latest project as a journey of resilience, telling Variety, "When things are bad, there's always some light at the end of the tunnel." However, the Recording Academy didn't seem to shine any light on her efforts this year.
On a brighter note, Beyoncé leads this year's nominees with an impressive 11 nods, making her the most-nominated artist in Grammy history with 99 total nominations.
Her album Cowboy Carter earned her first-ever nominations in the country and Americana categories, alongside traditional pop and rap categories. If she wins Album of the Year, she'll be the first Black woman to do so in the 21st century.
Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, and Taylor Swift also made waves with multiple nominations. Rising stars Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan round out a diverse lineup, competing in categories that reflect a broad range of musical styles and talents.
Grammy Representation Still Faces Criticism
Despite strides in diversity, the Grammys continue to fall short in some areas. Latin music, a genre with rapidly growing popularity, was notably underrepresented, as was K-pop. BTS RM, J-Hope, and Jimin were left out, despite releasing critically acclaimed solo projects.
Recording Academy President Harvey Mason Jr. acknowledged the gaps, saying, "Without the right representation, we don't get the right results."
The 2025 Grammy Awards, airing live on February 2 from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, promise a night of celebration and controversy as the music industry grapples with its evolving landscape.
