Aides from Buckingham Palace suggest King Charles III could be working himself to death as fears grow surrounding his prospects of defeating cancer, although he maintains a busy schedule.

The 76-year-old continues to work tirelessly in his duty as Head of State of the United Kingdom and nations within the Commonwealth, despite battling cancer for approximately 14 months.

He recently completed a four-day visit to Italy, which came shortly after trips to Oceania, Australasia and India; enjoying holistic treatment methods and mental health in the latter.

But it could be taking a toll on the ageing monarch as he was forced to cancel several engagements in March, needing to visit the hospital for treatment due to side effects of his cancer treatment.

Figures connected to the King are now worried he might be working too much, as he didn't even take the day off for his 20th wedding anniversary to Queen Camilla; undergoing six royal engagements and even meeting Pope Francis.

"We've all tried, but as everyone can see, the King loves his work," a senior Palace official said, as per radaronline.com, of trying to get Charles to slow down and take a moment to himself.

Prince William aware he might become King soon

Even Camilla is concerned about her husband's work rate, describing it light-heartedly as a "problem", although she insists his work ethic actually proves he is getting better and feeling stronger.

All the same, there are fears in the Family for the longevity of the King, so much so that Prince William and Kate Middleton are preparing mentally for the possibility of ascending sooner than expected.

"King Charles' recent health concerns have placed Prince William and the Princess of Wales on heightened alert," an insider added. "Anticipating the possibility of assuming the throne sooner than expected.

"They remain hopeful for his recovery and wish for many more years of his reign, but they cannot ignore the stark reality that circumstances may change unexpectedly.

"The king's hospitalization last week served as a sobering reminder of his ongoing health struggles, indicating to the family that they have little control over the timing of royal succession.

"King Charles is also aware of this and has been preparing William to take over at a moment's notice."
