King Charles III's personal fortune has soared by £30 million over the past year, placing him among Britain's richest individuals and solidifying his status as one of the wealthiest monarchs in British history.
According to the latest edition of The Sunday Times Rich List, the 76-year-old sovereign now holds an estimated £640 million in personal wealth, placing him t 238th out of the 350 wealthiest people and families in the UK.
The new valuation marks a £270 million increase from the £370 million attributed to Queen Elizabeth II before her death in 2022, making Charles nearly twice as wealthy as his late mother.
It also puts the monarch £140 million ahead of David and Victoria Beckham, whose combined net worth is reported at £500 million. In a remarkable twist of financial fate, King Charles now finds himself on par with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty, whose fortune also stands at £640 million after a £11 million drop from the previous year.
While Charles continues to undergo cancer treatment, this surge in wealth reflects a broader shift in royal finances. Much of the increase is attributed to investment returns and assets inherited from Queen Elizabeth, including his privately owned estates at Sandringham and Balmoral.
It's important to note that the Rich List assesses only personal assets-excluding holdings such as the Crown Estate, Duchy of Lancaster, and the Crown Jewels, which are held in trust by the monarch for the nation.
Wealth growth comes amid national shake-up and billionaire exodus
The jump in the King's personal wealth comes during a period of economic adjustment across Britain, including significant changes in the tax landscape.
The abolition of non-dom tax status by Chancellor Rachel Reeves has triggered the largest drop in British billionaires in the 37-year history of the Rich List, falling from 165 in 2024 to 156 in 2025.
As the longest-serving Prince of Wales in history, Charles benefited for decades from the Duchy of Cornwall, which provided him up to £23 million a year for personal and official expenses. That revenue stream now es to Prince William.
Among other notable individuals featured in the Rich List are Sir Elton John, Sir Lewis Hamilton, Sir James Dyson, and musical impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber.
At the top of the list once again are Gopi Hinduja and family, whose wealth stands at £35.3 billion-down slightly from £37.2 billion last year but still enough to hold the number one spot.
