Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's chapter in the British royal family may be coming to a definitive close as the Duke of Sussex finds himself poised to be axed from the line of succession.

According to insider sources, once King Charles III dies and Prince William ascends to the throne, he will formally strip his brother of his royal titles and he will be erased from official royal records.

RadarOnline.com reports that confidential discussions have already taken place at the highest levels of government and within the royal household to ensure this process is in motion, though such action requires formal parliamentary approval.

This development follows years of mounting tension within the Royal Family, triggered by the Sussexes' decision in 2020 to relinquish their royal duties and relocate to California.

Tom Cruise has hailed his ex-wife Nicole Kidman as a "great actress"

Since then, their actions have only deepened the rift too. An explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey left Buckingham Palace seething, before this was followed up by Harry's 2023 memoir.

Along with other multiple public criticisms of the monarchy, His narrative of feeling neglected and alienated by his family has met with strong disapproval behind palace walls.

This tension further escalated recently when Harry lost a legal battle to retain his taxpayer-funded security while visiting the UK and headed to the BBC to speak his mind, voicing his frustration by accusing the establishment of acting in bad faith.

"I'm devastated," Harry told the BBC. "Not so much as devastated with the loss that I am about the people behind the decision, feeling as though this is okay.

"Is it a win for them? I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point."

Can Prince Harry fix burned bridges?

Despite the legal outcome, Harry expressed a desire to reconcile with his family, citing King Charles' declining health as a key reason as the 76-year-old continues battling an undisclosed form of cancer.

However, according to sources, Prince William now sees his brother as someone who voluntarily distanced himself from royal life and has little desire to let him return.

"As far as William is concerned," sources added to RadarOnline.com. "Harry left on his own , he lives in America, and he obviously doesn't want to be a royal anymore.

"At this point, William would never allow Harry to be in line for the British throne, and he's ready to take the measures to ensure that."

Additionally, a royal commentator named Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that Harry's continued media appearances only complicate reconciliation efforts.

"The interview was a disaster," Fitzwilliam told RadarOnline.com. "Because the royals feared the Sussexes would go to the press.

"If he says he wants reconciliation, if there is to be any, it should be private."
