A Georgia Grand Jury indicted former President Donald Trump on Monday for allegedly attempting to alter the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The result in that state was crucial to Joe Biden's victory, which prevented the Republican's re-election bid.

After its analysis, the Grand Jury indicted Trump on racketeering and conspiracy charges. It is the fourth state indictment against the former president, although despite his legal problems he continues to lead the Republican preferences for the 2024 presidential election.

The indictment is the result of an extensive investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to document Trump's alleged attempts to subvert the election result, where Biden was ultimately declared the winner.

Before the case, Trump's campaign team denounced electoral interference and the aspirant himself assured that "I did not manipulate anything".

However, the document among them, the former chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark.

An indictment that could be key to stopping Trump on his way to reelection

Unlike other multiple indictments against Trump, if he is found guilty by this court, he will not be able to pardon himself or his collaborators, nor order the dismissal of the case, for which he would face a sentence of five to 20 years in prison.

The investigation is the product of a phone call from January 2021, which has been made public, where Trump allegedly ordered a local official, Brad Raffensperger, to "find", however he could, the approximately 12 thousand ballots in his name that he lacked to win the16 electoral points that grant electoral victory in Georgia.

In addition to this accusation, Donald Trump has been charged with three other complaints: an alleged attempt to conspire to alter the outcome of the 2020 elections (in Washington), negligence in the handling of confidential documents (in Florida), and for alleged hidden payments to a former porn actress to buy her silence (in New York).

In addition to Trump, the court in Georgia also charged:

  • Rudy Giuliani, Trump's lawyer.
