Since Donald Trump returned to the White House, the news about him has not stopped. The President has revoked the temporary legal status of more than half a million immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela who are in the U.S.
In a month's time, on April 24, the work permits and deportation protections of more than 500,000 people who came legally to the US under Biden's humanitarian parole will be cancelled. This was communicated by the Department of Homeland Security with its secretary Kristi Noem.
Why will the deportation of these 500,000 people take place?
This was the warning from the US Department of Homeland Security: "Parolees with no legal basis to remain in the United States following the termination of the CHNV parole programs should depart the country prior to the expiration date of their parole."
Kristi Noem, secretary of the department, says she is removing these legal protections because: "Neither urgent humanitarian reasons nor a significant public benefit justify the continued presence of aliens on parole under the CHNV programs and therefore the purposes of such parole have been met."
Finally, Kristi Noem says she wants to carry this out as quickly as possible: "We plan to quickly expel aliens who entered the United States under the CHNV parole programs who do not leave the country before the termination date of their parole and have no legal basis to remain in the United States."
A program that Biden launched in 2022
This program was carried out by Biden three years ago, which allowed immigrants with financial sponsors to have two-year permits to live and work in the US. However, Donald Trump did away with it when he returned to power, as he found multiple irregularities.
