Elon Musk has always been a controversial figure, in times of prosperity or crisis, but now he is more in the spotlight than ever. First, because of his strong political stance alongside President Donald Trump and then because of Tesla's poor financial results.

The first quarter of 2025 has left some dire numbers for the Austin-based company, with a 20% drop in revenue from the car business and a double-digit decline in sales over the past year (-12%).

Musk... controversial?

This has led to rumors about Musk's position as the company's top executive... to the point that the Wall Street Journal reported that Tesla's board would be in favor of looking for another figure for the position and would even have taken the step of ing headhunters to start that process

The executives' criticisms focused on Musk's effective inability to reconcile governance tasks with the management of the automaker. Tesla immediately jumped to deny this information, arguing that it had even ed the media to

"Just today [yesterday] a news story was published in the media which erroneously claimed that the Tesla Board had ed recruitment companies to begin the search for a CEO," the company said on Twitter.

"This is absolutely false (and this was communicated to the media before the report was published). Tesla's CEO is Elon Musk and the Board has full confidence in his ability to continue executing the exciting growth plan ahead," they add.

Elon Musk also 'jumps'

If there was any doubt, Musk himself in the first person 'finished off' the Journal's information with another undisguised criticism of the American newspaper: "It is an EXTREME LACK OF ETHICS for the Wall Street Journal to publish a DELIBERATELY FALSE ARTICLE and not include an unequivocal denial in advance by Tesla's board of directors."
