Workers and households with low or moderate incomes have the opportunity to receive Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)benefits to obtain a tax exemption through a reduction in taxes owed and apply for a refund, which they may receive during tax season, which began on January 27 and will end on April 15, 2025.
To claim the EITC, the taxpayer must claim it on their federal tax return.
The law prevents the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from issuing EITC refunds before mid-February, a provision that covers the entire refund, not just the portion related to the credit claimed on the tax return.
Because of this, if you requested this refund in the early days of the tax season, the payment should have reached you by March 3, as long as you filed online, chose direct deposit and, finally, if the IRS found no problem with the return.
When will EITC payments be received this week in March?
To claim the EITC, you must file Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, or Form 1040-SR, U.S. Tax Return for Seniors.
Once this process is complete, payment could arrive 21 days after filing with the IRS, and the status of your tax return can be checked online.
These are the dates on which you could receive your EITC payment this week, depending on when you filed your taxes:
- February 16: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 9
- February 17: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 10
- February 18: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 11
- February 19: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 12
- February 20: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 13
- February 21: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 14
- February 22: Direct deposit with EITC is delivered on March 15
The IRS recommends that taxpayers who filed a tax return but did not claim the EITC and were eligible to do so should file an amended return using Form 1040-X.
