For some Social Security beneficiaries, May could bring as many as three different payments from the Social Security istration (SSA).
Anyone receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the agency will receive two payments in May, in addition to their regular Social Security benefits payment.
The SSA pays Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, but the programs are different.
On the one hand, SSI is means-tested and is intended for people over 65 years of age, who are visually impaired or disabled, as well as those with low incomes and very limited resources.
In March of this year, the agency reported that more than 7.4 million people (seniors, adults and children) were receiving SSI benefits.
Recently, some people reported receiving notifications that they were "not receiving benefits." However, the Social Security istration said these notifications were sent in error.
If you want to monitor your May payments, you can check the agency's online retirement benefits schedule for 2025 and 2026.
What are the Social Security checks that will be distributed in May 2025?
The SSA staggers its retirement payments according to your date of birth, which is detailed below:
- Birthdays between the 1st and 10th; Wednesday, May 14.
- Birthdays between the 11th and 20th: Wednesday, May 21
- Birthdays between the 21st and 31st: Wednesday, May 28.
In addition, if you receive SSI, you will receive two payments in May: one on Thursday, May 1 and another on Friday, May 30.
The May 30 payment technically corresponds to June, so you will not receive another SSI payment until July 1.
The full SSI payment schedule for the rest of 2025 is as follows:
- Thursday, May 1
- Friday, May 30
- Tuesday, July 1
- Friday, August 1
- Friday, August 29
- Wednesday, October 1
- Friday, October 31
- Monday, December 1
- Wednesday, December 31
If you ever miss a payment, the SSA recommends first ing your bank or financial institution to check for any delays.
If there is no delay, you can call the agency at 1-800-772-1213 or your local Social Security office.
