The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, provides benefits to more than 42 million residents to access essential food across the United States.
This federal program represents a key for those facing economic hardship.
Although the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees SNAP nationally, each state isters its implementation independently.
In Florida, the Department of Children and Families is responsible for managing benefits.
People who qualify receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, similar to a debit card. Funds are deposited each month and can only be used on authorized products.
Permitted items include nutritious foods such as proteins, carbohydrates, essential fats, fruits and vegetables. The aim of the program is to provide a balanced diet that will help prevent health problems associated with malnutrition, such as scurvy.
However, SNAP benefits do not cover the purchase of hot or ready-to-eat products, nor alcohol, cigarettes, gasoline or other non-food items. Those who break the program's rules could lose access to assistance.
Who will receive their SNAP payment in Florida the second week of April?
People who receive SNAP benefits in the state of Florida do so each month with payment dates ranging from the 1st to the 28th of each month.
The schedule is determined according to the eighth and ninth digits of the beneficiary's Florida case number, excluding the 10th digit.
The schedule takes the ninth and eighth digits of your case number, read backwards, excluding the tenth digit, a system that ensures a smooth distribution process to stagger payments throughout the month:
- Case number 39-41: benefits available on the 12th of each month
- Case number 42-45: benefits available on the 13th of each month
- Case number 46-48: benefits available on the 14th of each month
- Case number 49-53: benefits available on the 15th of each month
- Case number 54-57: benefits available on the 16th of each month
- Case number 58-60: benefits available on the 17th of each month
- Case number 61-64: Benefits available on the 18th of each month
