The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is at the center of a sweeping movement to eliminate what it views as unnecessary federal expenditures.
This aggressive approach includes canceling thousands of contracts, leases, and grants issued by various federal agencies-an effort that DOGE claims will rein in bloated spending and bring greater fiscal discipline to Washington.
This controversial effort has already had widespread impact, with over 10,700 federal contracts reportedly terminated to date. The total potential value of these agreements was approximately $71 billion, though officials estimate actual taxpayer savings closer to $32 billion, as many of the contracts were already partially fulfilled or funds had been obligated.
The agency's campaign to "clean house" has touched nearly every corner of the federal government. Departments such as Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, and Justice have each experienced notable contract terminations.
