The United States of America is alive with buzz of election chatter and President Joe Biden and former-President Donald Trump have agreed to hold a debate on June 27 on CNN, breaking with the decades-long tradition of three presidential debates hosted by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

The announcement was made Wednesday, May 15, hours after Biden publicly confirmed that he would accept CNN's proposal through a social media post. A Trump adviser, who preferred not to be identified, confirmed that the Republican nominee would agree to participate in the CNN event. The news network also announced its plans to hold the debate.

This public agreement comes after weeks of private discussions about possible meetings between the two candidates. Sources close to the Biden and Trump campaigns revealed that both teams have held informal conversations about the debates.

Biden's proposal, detailed in a video posted on YouTube and a letter to the committee, suggests direct negotiations between the Trump and Biden campaigns to define the rules, s and hosts of the debates.

"Donald Trump lost two debates against me in 2020 and hasn't shown up for a debate since," Biden said, breaking the news. "Now he's acting like he wants to debate me again.

"Well, make my day, buddy. I'll even do it twice. So, let's pick the dates, Donald. I hear you're free on Wednesdays."

The pair are neck and neck in the poles with Trump currently leading by one point according to The Economist and the pair have never been more than a few points apart as the USA remains firmly split on turning red or sticking blue in November.

Nonetheless, Trump welcomes the debate against the man he believes doesn't have the sharpest cognitive powers around at the moment.

"I am ready and willing to debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September," Trump said on Truth Social "I would highly recommend more than two debates.

"And, to generate excitement, a very large venue, even though Biden is supposedly afraid of crowds. Just tell me when, I'll be there Let's get ready to party!!!"
