Jim McIngvale, better known as "Mattress Mack," is a furniture magnate in Houston who won the largest legal payout in sports betting history on Saturday night when the Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 MLB World Series.
McIngvale, 71, won $75 million after placing multiple bets on the Astros to win the World Series.
He bet $10 million throughout the year spread out via six different sportsbooks.
First, McIngvale wagered $3 million on the Astros to win the World Series at Caesars at 10/1 and $1 million at WynnBet.
In July, he bet $2 million at BetMGM at 5/1, $2 million at Barstool at +533 and $1 million each at Unibet and Betfred, also at 5/1.
Mattress Mack won't keep the money
McIngvale, however, will not be pocketting the entire winnings, as he gives out refunds to customers who spent over $3,000 at his store throughout the season as part of his "If the Astros win, you win" promotion.
Caesars, the sportsbook which took the biggest hit from McIngvale's bet, having to pay out $30 million, released a statement for Mattress Mack.
"What can we say? We just wrote the biggest check in sports betting history to Mattress Mack for $30,000,000," Ken Fuchs, the COO of Caesars Digital, said. "Would we do it all again? You bet.
"While Mack may have won this round on the field, we're proud of how we teamed up to first responders and military veterans in Houston, Philly and Atlantic City."
