The Gold Glove award in Major League Baseball has the slightly more formal name of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award and it is the best honor that a fielder can receive at the end of the season.

It is handed out annually to the players judged to have exhibited superior individual fielding performances at each fielding position in both the National League (NL) and the American League (AL).

Winners are determined from voting by the managers and coaches in each league, who are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Additionally, a sabermetric component provided by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) s for about 25 percent of the vote.

Obviously, there are a number of different fielding positions on a baseball field, so players have won the Gold Glove from different ones throughout the long history of the award, which was first handed out in 1957.

Who has the most MLB Gold Gloves?

There is a very clear winner when it comes to the baseball players with the most Gold Glove awards.

From the pitcher position, Greg Maddux has managed to win the Gold Glove on a staggering 18 occasions.

His first came back in 1990 and that began a run of 13 straight years in which he was the National League's Gold Glove Award winner for pitchers.

He had an absolute monopoly over the award, meaning that many other talented players just could not get near it.

The one man who gets close to Maddux is Brooks Robinson, who managed to win the Gold Glove 16 times from third base. These awards were handed out between 1960 and 1975.
