They would really struggle without him in action

The Boston Red Sox are in for a tense wait as they try to find out the extent of the injury that Rafael Devers may have suffered.

An issue first became clear when he was cut at the last minute from the lineup for the final game of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Red Sox have still got hopes of qualifying for the playoffs this season in MLB but those hopes would be dealt a blow if they have to continue without Devers.

It was confirmed by Red Sox manager Alex Cora that there was some discomfort for Devers and he will have to undergo some x-rays.

"He's in pain. So we'll stay away from him. We think it's a day-to-day thing. So it makes sense to keep him out of the lineup and then assess from there," he said.

Devers is currently hitting .272 with 57 extra-base hits, 29 home runs, 88 RBIs and an .863 OPS in 123 games. That shows how much of a blow it would be to the Red Sox to lose him.

More drama for the Red Sox

Last month, there was drama of a different nature for the Red Sox after their game against the Mets was met with torrential rain.

The skies opened up during the fourth inning, filling the stadium with water and delaying the game for two hours, before it was eventually suspended.

Rather than letting the situation get them down, fans in attendance ed together to entertain themselves underneath the stands.

One fan took off his shirt and did a body slide in the water while others cheered him on and took pictures.
