Danny Jansen is set to etch his name into the Major League Baseball history books for an incredibly unusual reason.

As you might expect, nobody has ever played for two different baseball teams within the same professional fixture, but Jansen is going to do just that.

On Monday, a previously suspended match between the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays will be continued, but there have been some changes since the first attempt to play the game took place.

Jansen is currently playing for the Red Sox, but he was playing for the Blue Jays when this game first started.

That was on June 26 at Fenway Park and the play was halted thanks to the incredibly heavy rain. It has taken until Monday next week for the rest of the fixture to be fulfilled.

Jansen was traded to the Red Sox for three prospects on July 27.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Friday that he will put Jansen in behind the plate to replace Reese McGuire.

Cora confirms it

Many people had not made the link until Cora himself confirmed the news to the press after some questions from journalists.

"Monday, [Jansen] will play Game 1 by the way, for all the people that have been looking at history," said Cora.

"I've been getting texts from Jayson Stark [of the Athletic] and [ESPN's] Buster Olney, 'Is he catching?' Yeah he's catching. Let's make history," said Cora.

Jansen was asked about this possible set of events when he first moved to the Red Sox.

"I don't even know how this works," Jansen said. "I've heard about it a couple times. That'd be funky. I'm down 0-1. I don't want to strike out."
