Los Angeles Dodgers' relief pitcher Joe Kelly made heads turn as he rolled into the Jack in the Box parking lot in Ontario, California.
The spotlight wasn't on the pitcher or the Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour alone; it was on the shiny new Porsche that Kelly's wife, Ashley, received as a gift from none other than Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani grateful for from Kelly family
The buzz around the Kelly family started on Christmas Eve when Joe captured the moment he surprised his wife with a silver Porsche parked outside their house, complete with a giant red bow.
The twist? It was a gift from Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese athlete who recently signed a jaw-dropping $700 million, 10-year contract with the Dodgers.
In a heartwarming video shared on December 24, Ashley opened the front door to the unexpected present, hearing the words, "It's yours from Shohei."
The gesture left her momentarily stunned, and she humorously noted on Instagram, "Shokai's beautiful bra-less mom opened the door to one of the coolest days of her life."
She expressed her gratitude with a thank-you message to Ohtani.
Shohei Ohtani's thoughtful gesture was part of a larger narrative that unfolded after Ashley initiated an online campaign, even offering the Japanese pitching sensation her husband's No. 17 jersey to sweeten the deal.
Joe Kelly, fully ive of the plan, explained, "I wasn't going to give it up to just anybody."
With a touch of humor, he added, "Number 99 has a little bit of edge to it, and I'm an edgy guy, so it's going to be fun wearing the number."
On the recent Wednesday visit to Jack in the Box, Joe Kelly, now sporting the No. 99 jersey, created a stir among fans who captured moments with photos of him and the Porsche.
